128th Val Zabijaka Auction - Closes Jan 15, 2016

Welcome to the 128th auction. When I started this in 1972 I never thought that it would last this long. But thanks to you - bidders and consigners it has.  The current sale, as usual, has many fascinating items that would fit nicely in your collection.  The highlights of the auction are Cinderella issues some of them going back to 1910, more than one hundred years ago. They are all illustrated, so even if you do not bid on them - do take a look. They are rarely seen.

It also features a nice selection of postal history, including Deutsche Dienstpost Ukraine [German occupation of Ukraine during World War II] covers, which are not frequently seen in other auctions.  As requested by consigners, I am repeating some of the items, including local Issues. Many with lowered opening bids as owners suggested.  Former lot 23 [now lot 24] remained unsold and the consignor has lowered its price. It features an original press photo of Khust - capital of Carpatho-Ukraine occupied by Hungarian forces on March 17, 1939 right after its independence. This original large black and white photo IS from the Baltimore Sun newspaper archives with a certificate of authenticity. I don't want to speculate, but it is possible that this photo was taken by K. Lessiuk, a well-known philatelist with a store on famous Nassau Street in New York City, who was filming the action in Carpatho-Ukraine during this time. It was reported [at this time I do not remember by whom] that his son was killed during military action there.

In addition, this auction has a nice showing of the 1920 Courier Field Post stamps and local tridents. Some of the local issues, which are re-listed, as requested by sellers, are from C. W. Roberts' collection. Do not miss these rare treasures.

We had a great UKRAINEPEX in Grand Rapids, Michigan last August and it was fun seeing so many of you. We will have a Zustrich-Meet again this year and I hope that you will do yourself a favor, by attending. These are always entertaining and relaxing and you will have a chance to meet your friends and buy and sell some material. Hope to see you there.

P.S. Usual auction rules apply. Request a copy of auction rules, if interested.
