Australian Stamp Designer Dies

E-mail Print PDF

PKravchenkoWe have been advised of the recent passing of long-time philatelist and good friend to the Ukrainian Collectibles Society in Adelaide – Mr Petro Kravchenko of Sydney, Australia. Please read the tribute page that provides a synopsis of the late Peter’s rich life.

"In my humble opinion his crowning philatelic achievement was the facilitation of the issuance of the postage stamp commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Ukrainian Settlement in Australia in 1998," said George Fedyk,  Secretary/Treasurer Ukrainian Collectibles Society, Adelaide, Australia.

This stamp was issued on December 20,1998 and appears as stamp number 231 in the current Divari Catalogue (1918-2008).  This postage stamp gave Australia’s Ukrainian community immense pride.  It showed the dispora that Ukrainians in Australia, even though small in numbers, are vibrant, active and supportive of their own and their parent’s homeland and that they cherished their unique heritage.

UPNS.ORG Update

E-mail Print PDF

Welcome to the redesigned UPNS.ORG.   Our website has undergone a bit of a facelift and there is more to come.

During the last number of months the site has been relatively quiet due to the background work.  New features have been added that we hope will make the site more interesting to all our visitors.  We will be resuming the posting of articles for your reading enjoyment.  All UPNS chapters are also encouraged to send us their club news.

A new Classified section has been added for our members.  They will be able to post sale ads for Ukrainian philatelic and other collectibles that anyone can purchase.  Our library of Ukrainian Philatelist Journal is being digitized and as issues become available, anyone will be able to purchase a downloadable copy.  We hope to do the same for the Trident Visnyk.

The membership list is currently being reloaded and UPNS members will be notified when they can resume logging into the site.

Should you find any broken links, help us out by sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with the pertinent details.

E-mail Print PDF

In 1992, the year newly independent Ukraine began to once more issue its own postage stamps, I was inspired to establish a new annual UPNS award to recognize Ukraine's outstanding philatelic designs. The award was named the Heorhiy Narbut Prize, after Ukraine's outstanding graphic artist of the early 20th century who designed of some of the Ukrainian National Republic's first stamps and banknotes in 1918-1919.
